What information do you need to give your mover and cleaner to start with?
To be able to give an accurate quote the company you are contacting will need to know some key information, if you have never utilised a removalist, bond cleaner or carpet cleaner before you may not know what they will need to know, so we've put together a guide to help you out.
Key information for your Clean and Move:
- When do you want to move – dates and times of when your new lease starts and when your keys are due to be returned at your exiting tenancy
- Where are you moving to and from – full addresses of all locations plus any requests or possible issues with access (stairs, parking, lifts, ect)
- What do you need moved – Your removalist will need a full list of what they will be moving including boxes, bags and outdoor items – we recommend you either write a list or take a picture list of everything you need moved – you will also need to let your removalist know if you have any special requests, any heavy items or large awkward items
Preparing for packing
Packing your home to move can be overwhelming but this guide can help to give you some tips to make the process as stress free as possible.
When you know you are moving it is best to begin packing, start with all of your stored items and your stuff at the top of your cupboards, things you generally store anyway so they won’t be missed, this allows you to begin packing with plenty of time without it impacting your daily living.
HINT: This also gives you time and opportunity to reorganise the long term stored items into new boxes etc.
As it gets closer to your moving day, start a living Daily Pile, this may consist of small amounts of plates, cups, cutlery, towels, clothes, chargers, spare keys – just the items you need to use on a day to day basis – pack whatever is left.
When Packing an area start with heavy items first e.g. Books; canned food; files. Clearly label each box with a number to keep track of the location the box was packed from and therefore contents of the box.
HINT: Move towards the kitchen and office areas as these areas often take more time than expected.
Fragile items are stressful to pack! To ensure these arrive safely take the time to follow professional advice and use the appropriate packing materials. There are specialty boxes, packing materials and advise based on your items so ask your removalist how to best pack any items you are concerned about and they will advise the best packing materials and way to pack to ensure your precious items arrive at your new home safely.
The Bathroom and Laundry areas often accumulate extra items, pack all of the extras and only leave out a few necessities that are easy to pack the night before your move.
HINT: Have boxes ready and labelled in the areas for these last minute items so that they can be put in, taped up and its ready to go.
Preparing for your bond clean
Packing your home to move can be overwhelming but this guide can help to give you some tips to make the process as stress free as possible.
How do you know what your cleaner is going to clean as a part of the bond clean? You can easily find out by asking for a list of what is included in a bond clean.
By doing this prior to your cleaner arriving it gives you an opportunity to request additional services such as rubbish removal, outdoor pressure washing – eaves, patios, driveways and footpaths, outdoor power points and aircon units cleaning, mould cleaning, rug cleaning, security screen cleaning, fly screen cleaning, acid wash to garage floor to remove oil stains, blind cleaning, woollen carpets, marble surface cleaning.
For the bond clean to be performed your home needs to be completely empty of rubbish, furniture and personal items prior to the clean commencing
HINT: Double check every cupboard and drawer for items left behind
HINT: Look at the backs of the high and low cupboards and shelves as these are places things often get left as they aren’t easy to see
HINT: check behind drawers by removing the drawers to ensure things have not slipped behind and are in the void out of sight.
Preparing for your bond clean
When you book a carpet cleaner, you need ensure that all furniture items will be moved off the carpeted areas, if possible, prior to the carpet cleaner arriving and that there is nothing left on the carpet by giving it a quick vacuum once removing all bulky items.
HINT: Sending pictures of stains or heavily soiled carpet to the carpet cleaner prior to commencement of service will ensure the cleaner has the appropriate chemicals to combat your specific stains on the day of the service.
HINT: It is important to give the carpet adequate opportunity to dry by leaving fans on or in good weather leaving windows open - as if it is not given an opportunity to properly dry it can cause moisture to stay in the carpet and can cause problems like mould.
HINT: Annual Carpet Cleaning can extend the life of your carpet.
